A devastating fire broke out on Thursday afternoon at China City Mall, located at Santasi Star Junction near the Santasi Roundabout in Kumasi, destroying the entire building and goods worth thousands of cedis.
Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze began shortly after 3 p.m., possibly from the rear section of the mall, before rapidly spreading throughout the structure.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service rushed to the scene and worked tirelessly to contain the inferno, while the National Disaster Management Organisation assisted with recovery and safety measures.
Thick smoke was seen billowing from the building as shop owners and residents watched helplessly.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. Authorities have cordoned off the area to manage traffic, and several nearby businesses have been temporarily closed as a precaution. GNFS officials have indicated that investigations into the exact cause of the fire will begin once it is fully extinguished.
