The NPP chairmanship race is expeicted to be fierce as former National Chairman Awentami Paul Afoko has officially declared his intention to contest for the party’s top position in the upcoming national elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 28, Mr. Afoko said his decision follows extensive consultations and encouragement from party members and stakeholders calling for renewed leadership.
He emphasized that his candidacy is driven by a desire to restore the NPP to its founding values and democratic principles.
“This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our Party,” Mr. Afoko noted.
Mr. Afoko, suspended in 2015 over internal disputes, said he plans to engage with party members and the media in the coming weeks to share his vision and leadership plans.
He concluded with a call for collective effort saying, “Let us look ahead together. God bless the NPP. God bless our dear country.”
