Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ has slammed the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, accusing him of misrepresenting his recent public remarks and unfairly dragging the party’s Council into controversy.
In a statement dated September 28, 2025, Chairman Wontumi—said Kodua Frimpong failed to exercise due diligence before issuing a statement that painted him as undermining the party’s National Council.
“Throughout my engagement with people, I have never dragged in the name of our National Council and that is easily verifiable from videos shared online. It is unfortunate Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong has fallen for a propaganda seeking to misconstrue my statement,” he said.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman stressed that his comments during interactions with the grassroots focused on the NPP’s history and lessons that could position the party for victory in 2028 with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He drew parallels with former President J.A. Kufuor’s path to power, arguing that just as Kufuor built gradually from 39% in 1996, Dr. Bawumia needs only a small additional margin to win in 2028.
Wontumi accused the General Secretary of rushing to conclusions without engaging him directly for clarity.
“In this era where saboteurs can easily use tools such as Al to destroy good people, Mr. Kodua Frimpong could have simply reached out to me and gotten a full understanding of my statements before issuing a statement that is far from the truth,” he added.
He insisted his position as Ashanti Regional Chairman gives him unique insight into the sentiments of party supporters and that his role is to channel those views—not to antagonize the National Council.
