Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Joycelyn Quashie, has renewed calls for stronger enforcement of laws to end child marriage and sexual exploitation of minors.

She made the call at the ‘Up Girl Project’, a literary and conversation series spearheaded by the Duo Concept Foundation as part of the Ghana Association of Writers Book Festival (GAWBOFEST).

The session centered on “Talata, the Child Bride”, a novel published by Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited that sheds light on child marriage and its impact on the girl child.

Earlier, the MP joined Minister for Employment and Labour Relations and Wa Central legislator, Dr. Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, in Accra to engage students from selected second-cycle institutions on the importance of reading and writing.

As part of her support, she donated mathematics sets to participating students.

Mad. Quashie, who is also a committed child rights advocate, has been championing initiatives in her constituency to support vulnerable children with educational tools and social interventions.

At the event, she was joined by the Deputy Director of the Parliamentary Broadcasting Department, and together they read to the students while discussing solutions to eradicate child marriage in Ghana.

The Duo Concept Foundation, organizers of the ‘Up Girl Project’, is a non-profit organization dedicated to youth empowerment through literature, mentorship, and philanthropy.

This year’s partnership with GAWBOFEST is expected to engage over 1,000 students across second-cycle schools.
