Ten persons have been arrested and three others killed in a major police operation that dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate targeting rural banks across five regions of Ghana.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who announced the breakthrough in Accra, described it as a decisive step in the Service’s fight against violent crime.
He said the syndicate had been responsible for a wave of coordinated attacks on financial institutions, particularly rural banks, over the past year.
The operation, which spanned the Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions, followed months of surveillance and data analysis.
According to the IGP, the suspects were tracked to several communities, where police recovered weapons, vehicles, and other items.
Three suspects were fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire, while a manhunt is underway for others still on the run.
IGP Yohuno commended the Ashanti Regional Police Command, intelligence teams, and members of the public whose information made the arrests possible.
He assured that the police remain relentless in their pursuit of criminal elements, warning, “We will continue to make life uncomfortable for criminal elements in our society. We will continue to pursue you till you are brought to justice.”
