The Government of Ghana has revised the curfew hours for Bawku and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region, setting a new schedule of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., effective Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The change, announced by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, follows fresh advice from the National Security Council and was implemented through an Executive Instrument.

The curfew adjustment comes amid ongoing efforts to manage tensions in the area, which has seen sporadic violence and unrest which has led to the evacuation of students after three were killed on campus.

In a related development, the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its surrounding areas in the North East Region remains unchanged.

That restriction, which took effect on Sunday, July 27, 2025, is still in force daily from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

The directive was issued based on security assessments and recommendations by the North East Regional Security Council.

Authorities have again appealed to traditional leaders, youth groups, and residents in both regions to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and seek peaceful means of resolving local disputes.

A strict ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons remains in place in all affected areas. The Interior Ministry has warned that individuals found violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
