The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted Suame Member of Parliament John Darko enquiry bail after questioning him as part of investigations into an alleged criminal conspiracy linked to a financial loss of approximately GH¢27 million at SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
According to EOCO, Mr Darko honoured the Office’s invitation on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, and reported to its head office at exactly noon to assist investigators with information relevant to the case.
The Office said the MP was cooperative during the engagement, a factor it considered in granting him enquiry bail.
“The Honourable Member honoured the invitation and reported to the Office at exactly 12:00 noon today. He was respectful, cooperative and fully responsive throughout the investigative process.”
EOCO said the decision to grant him bail followed an assessment of the circumstances of the case, the applicable law and his level of cooperation.
The investigation concerns an alleged criminal conspiracy that has resulted in a revised estimated financial loss of about GH¢27 million to SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
However, EOCO did not disclose the specific allegations against Mr Darko or detail the role investigators believe he may have played.
The Office also confirmed that Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, the former Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, had honoured its invitation and was cooperating with investigators.
Mr. Darko’s appearance before EOCO comes amid a wider investigation involving transactions linked to SIC Savings and Loans and a related case involving Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who has faced criminal charges connected to alleged financial loss and money laundering.
On October 3, Mr. Darko reportedly indicated that he had been informed of his involvement in the investigation concerning Mr Baffour Awuah and was prepared to cooperate with investigators if formally invited.
EOCO said its investigation was continuing and cautioned that no conclusion had been reached on the culpability of any person connected to the matter.
“EOCO wishes to emphasise that investigations into this matter are progressing steadily according to its case theory. As the investigation remains active, no conclusion has been reached regarding the culpability or otherwise of any person connected to the matter.”
