The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has revealed that the government will reconstruct the statue of the Zugran of the Kusaug Traditional Area in Bawku, which was destroyed during a clash involving some military personnel.
On Sunday, July 13, 2025 tensions flared when youth in the area clashed with military officers, resulting in the destruction of the revered statue.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 21, Dr. Omane Boamah stated that the government is taking necessary measures to rebuild the statue.
Dr. Omane Boamah acknowledged that while Ghana remains generally secure both internally and externally, the situation in Bawku and its surrounding areas continues to be unstable.
He assured the public that the Ghana Armed Forces are closely monitoring developments in the area and are prepared to prevent any escalation.
“Let me assure once again that government has decided to take necessary steps to reconstruct the statue of the Zugran of the Kusaug traditional area in Boko while (11:02) investigation into the incident continues,” he stated.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah further cautioned that any individual attempting to incite violence under the guise of chieftaincy matters would face the full force of the law.
