The Managing Editor of the Searchlight newspaper, who previously faced legal challenges in defense of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidential ambitions, has voiced his disappointment with the treatment he received from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the party came into power in 2017.

The journalist-turned-lawyer, who was incarcerated by the Supreme Court during the 2016 Election Petition, expressed frustration over what he perceived as preferential treatment given to former girlfriends of the President, who received lucrative appointments, while individuals like himself, who had made sacrifices for the party, were overlooked.

While acknowledging that he did not join the party for personal gain but rather to experience improved governance under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership, he lamented that this expectation had not been fulfilled.

Speaking on the Saturday edition of The Citizen Show hosted by Nana Out Darko on Accra 100.5 FM on May 11, 2024, Mr. Kuranchie, who unsuccessfully contested for the parliamentary seat in the Okaikwei North Constituency on the NPP ticket in the Greater Accra Region, expressed his disillusionment with the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He clarified that while he did not expect to be remunerated for his contributions to the NPP, he believed that if compensation were to be offered, it should be fair and equitable.

He criticized the practice of using political power to reward family members, friends, and associates at the expense of the majority of Ghanaians.

Asserting that power should be used to improve the lives of all citizens, he emphasized the importance of holding those in positions of authority accountable for their actions.

Mr. Kuranchie concluded by announcing his decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, highlighting his commitment to promoting accountability and fair governance.
