President John Mahama has introduced a strict new policy barring the use of DStv and other satellite TV subscriptions at the Jubilee House, signalling a push for leaner, more accountable governance.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in an interview on JoyNews on Tuesday, June 10.
According to him, no office within the presidency is permitted to use paid television services.
The decision, described as the beginning of a broader cost-saving campaign, is expected to be implemented across all government agencies in the coming weeks.
The ban, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained, is part of ongoing efforts to curb unnecessary public spending and promote modesty among public officials.
He demonstrated that televisions at the presidency now show only local channels, emphasizing that the new rule is already in effect.
“I can reveal to you that if you come to this house, there’s no office in this house that is allowed to subscribe to DSTV or any satellite television,” he said.
“You would say that that is a trivial matter, but he has done that. Because when you computed the cost, it was significant money.”
“You can turn on the television that you see here, you will find that I’m only limited to local television stations. It is something that will be extended to all government agencies to ensure that we don’t waste the taxpayers’ money.”
