The Wa Circuit Court in the Upper West Region has sentenced a notorious armed robber of Adinan Mahmoud, alias “Okra,” to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Okra had been on the police wanted list for multiple violent robberies across the region.
A statement from the Wa Police, explained that the 25-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday, May 31, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Sandemuni in the Wa Municipality.
He appeared before the Wa Circuit Court on Monday, June 2, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The presiding judge, His Honour Jonathan Avogo, sentenced him to 18 years of imprisonment with hard labour.
The statement further revealed that Okra’s two accomplices, Abdulai Ibrahim (alias Baba) and Abdulai Kipo, pleaded not guilty.
They remain in custody as their trial continues on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The police noted that the conviction follows rigorous intelligence operations carried out by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
The removal of Okra from the streets, according to the police is expected to restore a greater sense of security to the people of the Upper West Region.
The Command reiterated its dedication to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents by relentlessly pursuing criminals.
