President John Dramani Mahama has identified agriculture, agro-processing, healthcare, energy security and digital services as key sectors offering investment opportunities for African and Russian businesses.

He said stronger commercial partnerships between the two sides could help unlock economic opportunities, support industrial development and generate long-term returns.

Speaking at the 3rd Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow, President Mahama urged global partners to move beyond traditional aid relationships and embrace investment models that support mutual economic growth.

“Africa is a continent of the future. Immense opportunities abound for mutual investment between African and Russian enterprises, particularly in agriculture, agro-processing, healthcare, energy security, and digital services,” he said.

The President stressed that African leaders were working to remove administrative bottlenecks that prevent existing diplomatic goodwill from developing into sustainable business relationships.

“Our goal as Africa’s current leaders is to eliminate administrative bottlenecks and transform historic goodwill into robust, sustainable commercial ties,” he stated.

His remarks build on Ghana’s efforts to attract Russian investment into areas where local businesses can benefit from partnerships, technology transfer and expanded markets.

At the summit, Mahama has also encouraged Russian companies to partner Ghanaian businesses in areas such as fertiliser production, agricultural machinery, pharmaceuticals, transport infrastructure and the digital economy.

Ghana has also initiated discussions with Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy company, Rosatom, over the establishment of the country’s first nuclear power station, according to an earlier disclosure by the President at the summit.

The investment push forms part of broader efforts to strengthen economic relations between Ghana and Russia while expanding trade and commercial cooperation across Africa.

President Mahama’s position is that stronger private-sector collaboration, improved market access and investment in productive industries can help transform the longstanding relationship between Africa and Russia into tangible economic benefits.
