The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced November 16, 2026, as the new deadline for paying outstanding promotion arrears owed to affected staff following delays in the processing of payments.
In a letter dated Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and addressed to Regional Directors, the Service said it was working with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to ensure that all outstanding arrears were settled by the new deadline.
“Management wishes to inform all staff who are yet to receive their promotion arrears that efforts are being made in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to ensure that the outstanding arrears are paid on 16th November, 2026,” the letter stated.
The announcement comes after some staff were left awaiting their promotion-related payments following an earlier payment exercise on October 16, 2026.
According to the GES, the payment system of the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department had been closed for the processing of end-of-October salaries at a time when the necessary inputs for the arrears payments were expected to be submitted.
“The System will be reopened tomorrow, 28th October, 2026 to enable all inputs to be made and facilitate payment to affected staff by 16th November, 2026,” the letter added.
The Service also assured staff that discrepancies identified in payments made on October 16 would be addressed.
“Furthermore, all discrepancies identified in the payment made on 16th October, 2026 will be rectified accordingly,” it said.
GES management expressed regret over the delay and the inconvenience caused to affected staff.
“Management regrets the delay and the inconvenience caused,” the letter stated.
The Regional Directors have consequently been asked to communicate the update to all affected personnel to ensure they are informed of the revised payment arrangements.
Promotion arrears are payments owed to staff following their promotion, including applicable salary adjustments and arrears arising from the effective date of their new ranks.
The latest announcement is expected to provide a timeline for staff who are yet to receive their payments, as well as those whose earlier payments contained discrepancies.
Affected staff will have to await the completion of the required payment inputs and processing by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department before the November 16 deadline.
