Voting in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency elections experienced a delay in Ashaiman, where more than 3,000 delegates turned out to elect new executives, while several candidates in Ningo-Prampram were set to retain their positions unopposed.
In Ashaiman, voting scheduled for 8:00 a.m. began at about 10:00 a.m., leaving delegates waiting at Ashaiman Secondary School, the designated polling centre.
The delegates gathered to elect executives who will manage the affairs of the constituency for the next four years.
The elections in Ashaiman commenced with voting for the youth organiser and women organiser positions. The remaining portfolios, including chairman and communications officer, were expected to follow.
The entrance to Ashaiman Secondary School was crowded with delegates and party supporters wearing NDC paraphernalia as they waited to participate in the exercise.
About five aspirants were contesting the constituency chairmanship, one of the key positions in the internal elections.
Meanwhile, more than 2,000 delegates participated in the NDC constituency elections in Ningo-Prampram, where several candidates were set to retain their positions without a contest.
Peter Teye Nartey, the constituency communications officer, attributed the unopposed candidacies to the performance of the officeholders, saying they had delivered on their mandate.
The deputy treasurer position was among those facing competition, alongside other executive positions contested by multiple aspirants.
Nartey’s explanation suggests that the retention of some candidates was linked to their record in office, although the specific achievements were not detailed in the supplied account.
Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive Raphael Nartey also linked the unopposed candidates to unity within the constituency branch of the party.
He expressed confidence that the constituency would continue to deliver social amenities and other infrastructure projects, which he said would help the NDC retain the area.
