The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) goes to the polls today, Saturday, October 24, to elect constituency executives as part of efforts to reorganise the party ahead of the 2028 general election.
About 15,000 aspirants are expected to contest various executive positions across 276 constituencies nationwide during the elections scheduled for Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, 2026.
The exercise will determine the party’s grassroots leadership, which is responsible for coordinating its political and organisational activities at the constituency level.
NDC Deputy Director of Elections Mahdi Jibril disclosed the figures, explaining that elections would not be held in Juabeso in the Western North Region and Banda in the Bono East Region because the candidates there were going unopposed.
Ketu South in the Volta Region held its elections on Friday, October 23, following a change approved by the national party to avoid a clash with other activities.
The aspirants are contesting positions including constituency chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, organiser, deputy organiser, communications officer, women’s organiser and youth organiser, among others.
The Electoral Commission (EC), working with the NDC’s election committees in the constituencies, will oversee the exercise, while the Ghana Police Service is expected to provide security.
The constituency elections form part of a broader internal election programme that will culminate in the election of regional and national party executives.
The NDC is scheduled to hold its regional executive elections on November 14 and 15, 2026, preceded by the Regional Youth and Women Conference on November 13.
The party’s National Youth and Women Conference is scheduled for December 12, with the National Congress set for December 19, when national executive officers will be elected.
The reorganisation is intended to renew the party’s leadership structures from the constituency level to the national level as it prepares for the 2028 general election.
