Dr David K. Mensah Awadzie has officially entered the race for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary position race, picking up his nomination forms on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Running under the powerful campaign banner “Restoring the Base.
The Hope of the Masses,” Dr Awadzie is positioning his candidacy as a direct bridge between grassroots dedication and administrative efficiency.
Addressing party comrades, delegates, and members of the press, Dr Awadzie underscored his deep-rooted history within the party.
Unlike those who enter through political privilege, his journey spans working from the ground up as a Branch Secretary for Perfect One (1) at Dome Pillar Two, serving as Deputy Constituency Secretary for Dome- Kwabenya, and contributing to the Dome- Kwabenya branch reorganisation committee.
In addition to his political track record, Dr Awadzie brings heavy-hitting professional and academic credentials to the party’s secretariat. Holding a PhD in Accounting and Finance alongside hands-on corporate experience as an Accountant and Finance Manager, he aims to transform the NDC’s administrative engine through academic precision, industrial management, and strict structural discipline.
At the heart of Dr Awadzie’s campaign is a staunch critique of the “godfather syndrome,” which he argues has long overshadowed internal party politics by valuing personal connections over actual sacrifice.
Stressing that loyalty must never be a one-way sacrifice, he pledged to dismantle political favoritism and establish a transparent, merit-based rewarding system.
To institutionalize these reforms, Dr Awadzie unveiled Four Pillars to Restore the Base:
National Party Service Register: A verified digital database designed to permanently log the service records, training programmes, assignments, and electoral contributions of every volunteer, polling agent, and executive so sacrifices are never forgotten.
Equal Opportunity Placement Desk: A professional unit within the National Secretariat to connect qualified party members to public boards, institutional appointments, scholarships, and professional roles using transparent, merit-based criteria.
Skills and Employment Network: A robust platform connecting the party’s diverse pool of professionals, artisans, entrepreneurs, teachers, and market women to genuine employment, enterprise support, and legitimate procurement opportunities.
Permanent Polling Agent Academy: A continuous training institution established well ahead of election cycles to certify polling agents and organizers in electoral law, digital reporting, and democratic accountability.
As the campaign season heats up, Dr Awadzie issued a candid advisory to party delegates regarding financial inducements.
He encouraged members to accept what is offered by candidates, but to vote with their future in mind when standing behind the ballot box.
“Do not vote for temporary windfalls; instead, vote for an enduring structure that will work for you, secure your dignity, and protect your children’s future,” Dr Awadzie urged.
Concluding his declaration with the rallying cries of “Restore the base! Reward the faithful! Strengthen our structures! Secure our victory!”, Dr Awadzie seeks a mandate grounded in discipline, integrity, and absolute commitment to the NDC
