Security agencies have intercepted a cache of weapons during a joint physical inspection at the Takoradi Integrated Terminal (TIT), prompting further examination of a container and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the importation of the items.
The discovery was made during an inspection of container No. TIIU5055870, declared under Bill of Entry (BOE) No. 41026792479.
According to details of the seizure, officers discovered a black bag containing eight pistols and eight packs of blank cartridges, with each pack containing 50 cartridges.
The weapons comprised six Mini Gap pistols, one Bruni 96 automatic pistol and one Bruni Model 84 pistol.
The inspection involved officers from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), National Security and operators of the Takoradi Integrated Terminal.
The items were identified in the presence of the declarant, Royal Frontline Logistics Limited, and the importer, Alhassan Musah.
The joint inspection team suspended further examination of the container because of adverse weather conditions and the late hour.
The container was secured with seal numbers Y008621 and 216211, with a full 100 per cent physical examination scheduled for the following morning.
The suspension was intended to allow the examination to continue at a later time, while the container remained secured under the recorded seals.
The recovered weapons and the black bag were transferred to the GRA Customs Division Collection Armoury for safekeeping and further investigation.
The transfer was documented under Seizure Notice No. 0027834.
The Regional Police was also promptly informed of the discovery. The Regional Crime Officer documented details of the seizure and the suspects as investigations continued.
Authorities have assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the importation of the weapons.
The available details do not establish the intended use of the pistols and cartridges or whether any individual or company has been found criminally liable in connection with the seizure.
Further examination of the container and the ongoing investigations are expected to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Authorities have not provided further details on possible charges or arrests in the information available.
