Abass Mustapha Osabutey, popularly known as “The Capo,” has declared his intention to contest for the position of Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), drawing on nearly two decades of political involvement, grassroots mobilisation and party organisation.
Mr. Osabutey, whose political experience spans branch-level leadership, campaign operations and national communication activities, says his record within the party has prepared him to take on greater responsibility as the NDC positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
In his declaration addressed to fellow Akatamansonians, he said his experience in building party structures and mobilising supporters had equipped him for the role.
“My record is not a promise – it is proof. Nearly two decades of fierce grassroots service, battle-tested leadership, and relentless sacrifice have prepared me for this exact moment,” he stated.
His political profile includes serving as a member of the NDC National Communication Team from 2007 to 2013 and the NDC Government Communication Team at Osu Castle from 2013 to 2017.
He has also served as branch secretary and branch chairman in the Ashaiman Constituency, as well as ward coordinator for Nii Tetteh Amui West between 2008 and 2012.
He has been branch chairman at the National Primary School (A) branch in Ashaiman since 2017.
Mr Osabutey contested the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Ashaiman Constituency in 2012 and 2016.
He later served as Head of Operations and Special Duties in the New Edubiase Constituency during the 2020 and 2024 elections.
His campaign experience also includes chairing the committee responsible for the Election Day strategic transportation plan during the 2023 Assin North by-election.
In 2024, he served as Head of Security and Intelligence at John Dramani Mahama’s presidential campaign secretariat in Kumasi.
He is also listed as National Deputy Secretary of the NDC Gadangme Caucus, a position he has held since 2024.
Explaining his familiarity with the party’s structures, Mr. Osabutey said his journey from the grassroots to the national level had given him practical experience in party mobilisation and organisation.
“I have risen from the raw grassroots to the national stage. I know our party structures because I have built, defended, and mobilized within them. My loyalty to our founding ideals is absolute. My experience is exactly what this moment demands,” he added.
Beyond his party activities, Mr. Osabutey has professional experience in security, peace and conflict management.
He identifies him as a security and intelligence professional with more than six years of experience in conflict prevention and management.
He is also the Executive Director of Platform for Peace and Security Africa, a civil society organisation, a role he has held since May 2019.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in Conflict, Peace and Security from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, obtained between 2017 and 2018, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Data Link University College.
Mr. Osabutey said his ambition was not simply to occupy a party position but to strengthen the NDC’s organisational capacity and improve its readiness for future elections.
“I do not come to ask for a title. I come to accept a responsibility. The time for half-measures is over,” he said.
Outlining his priorities, he pledged to revitalise grassroots mobilisation, rebuild party branch structures and ensure that no branch was left behind.
He also proposed using scientific election trend analysis to guide strategy, target resources and maximise voter engagement.
He further promised proactive, data-driven election operations to strengthen the party’s performance at all levels.
“My mission is clear: fortify our political strength, deliver an uncompromising victory in 2028, and build a party machine so resilient it dominates the political landscape for generations to come,” he stated.
Mr. Osabutey is asking party delegates and members to support his bid, expressing confidence that his experience in grassroots organisation, campaign coordination and security management would contribute to the role.
The contest for the Deputy National Organiser position comes as the NDC looks towards the 2028 general elections.
The role is central to the party’s organisational work, including coordinating grassroots structures, mobilising members and supporting campaign operations across constituencies and regions.
