NPP orders parliamentary aspirants to halt campaigns, warns of disciplinary action

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to immediately cease campaign activities, warning that defaulters could face disciplinary action that may affect their eligibility to contest.

The directive, contained in a statement dated Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, follows complaints that some party members seeking parliamentary seats have begun campaigning in various constituencies.

The party said the activities contravened its regulations and Code of Conduct, creating an uneven playing field and threatening the unity and discipline needed for its success.

“The Party accordingly directs, with immediate effect, that all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters cease all forms of campaign activities. This includes, but is not limited to:”

The NPP listed the mounting of posters, billboards, banners and other branded materials; organising rallies, polling station executives’ meetings and constituency tours to solicit support; distributing items or other inducements to delegates and party members; and paid media and social media advertising promoting a candidacy.

The party also prohibited officers at polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, including the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON), from promoting prospective parliamentary aspirants on social media platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram.

The statement further warned party officers against enabling what it described as premature parliamentary campaign activities.

“Any person who fails to comply will be dealt with in accordance with the Party’s disciplinary procedures, which may affect their eligibility to contest,” the statement said.

The party said it would announce the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary processes in due course. It has tasked constituency and regional executives with ensuring strict compliance within their respective jurisdictions.

The directive comes as the NPP seeks to regulate early campaigning ahead of its parliamentary selection process. The party says prospective aspirants must wait for the official guidelines rather than engage in activities that could give some candidates an advantage over others.

The leadership has appealed for the cooperation of all members to ensure compliance with the directive.
