The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has extended its Stay Back, Stay Safe campaign to Takoradi, urging residents to stay away from accidented fuel tankers and avoid siphoning spilled fuel.
The campaign forms part of the Authority’s efforts to protect lives and property by educating the public on the dangers associated with fuel siphoning and gathering around fuel tanker accident scenes.
As part of the initiative, an NPA team led by Western Regional Manager Sandra Aidoo participated in radio interviews with Radio Shama and Connect FM in Takoradi to raise awareness about the risks.
During the media engagements, Mrs Aidoo cautioned residents against approaching overturned fuel tankers, warning that such incidents could expose people to fires, explosions and other serious hazards.
She also urged the public to refrain from collecting spilled fuel or gathering at accident scenes to take photographs and videos, stressing the need to prioritise personal safety.
The Authority noted that fuel siphoning from accidented tankers remained a serious public safety concern, with incidents across the country resulting in injuries and loss of lives.
The Stay Back, Stay Safe campaign is intended to discourage dangerous behaviour at tanker accident scenes through public education, stakeholder collaboration and the enforcement of safety standards.
The NPA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property and the environment through sustained public awareness and efforts to promote safety across the downstream petroleum sector.
