The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated US$1.871 billion in foreign exchange from its artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) gold trade operations in September 2026, exceeding its monthly target of US$1.4 billion.

According to an announcement issued by GoldBod on Wednesday, September 30, the amount was generated in line with its statutory mandate under Section 2(b) of Act 1140.

Of the US$1.871 billion generated, US$701.3 million was sold to authorised commercial banks against a target of US$700 million to support stability in the foreign exchange market.

A further US$1.170 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana against a target of US$700 million to support the accumulation of foreign exchange reserves.

For October, GoldBod projects generating US$1.5 billion in foreign exchange from its operations.

It said US$1 billion of the projected amount will be made available to commercial banks to support FX market stability, while up to US$500 million will be provided to the Bank of Ghana to support reserve accumulation under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Programme (GANRAP).

GoldBod said the October transactions will be conducted under its newly developed Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework.

According to the Board, the framework is intended to strengthen “transparency, fairness and regulatory compliance.”

“GoldBod remains committed to its statutory mandate to generate foreign exchange for Ghana and will continue to work closely with all stakeholders,” the announcement said.

The Ghana Gold Board was established under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), with a mandate that includes regulating and promoting Ghana’s gold trade and generating foreign exchange through its gold trading operations.
