The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has secured a court warrant to arrest Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
The Accra High Court granted the application after EOCO argued that efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance had been unsuccessful.
The Office also sought permission to search for and seize documents connected to its investigation, citing concerns that relevant records could be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The order comes shortly after an incident at the Accra High Court on September 23, when EOCO officers attempted to arrest the MP, resulting in a confrontation.
EOCO has maintained that the attempted arrest formed part of an investigation following invitations issued to the legislator in February.Baffour Awuah has challenged that position, saying the matter concerns SIC Life Savings and Loans, which was previously a client of his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
According to him, representatives of the firm subsequently met EOCO investigators on three occasions and supplied the information requested, including a written statement.
The case is linked to financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans and Equity Savings and Loans.
The MP has said his former firm was engaged to recover an investment of about GH¢3.5 million, which increased to approximately GH¢14 million with interest before a settlement was reached.
EOCO has not disclosed the full scope of its investigation. The latest order now permits the Office to arrest the MP and conduct the authorised search and seizure.
