The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo (Esq.), on Wednesday led a delegation to the Ghana Police Headquarters to pay a courtesy call on the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

The visit, which took place at the IGP’s office in Accra, was marked by cordial exchanges, but the tone quickly shifted to pressing national issues—particularly the growing threat of fuel diversion and its link to illegal mining operations, commonly referred to as galamsey.

Addressing the IGP, Mr. Tameklo congratulated him on his appointment but noted that the NPA would need the full backing of the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on criminal networks siphoning petroleum products for illegal use. “Fuel diversion remains a major challenge, and it is one that feeds into broader security and environmental concerns. We believe the Police Service is a vital partner in this fight,” he said.

IGP Yohuno, in his remarks, thanked the NPA for the visit and assured them of the Police Service’s unwavering support. He emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration to curb crime in the downstream petroleum sector. “We recognize the critical role the NPA plays in safeguarding national resources. The Police Service stands ready to assist in combating fuel diversions and ensuring that our joint efforts lead to meaningful change,” he stated.

The two leaders also discussed strengthening intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and joint training exercises to enhance enforcement. Both parties underscored the importance of maintaining the long-standing cooperation between the two institutions for the broader good of the country.
