The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Ltd. has announced the appointment of Mr. Edmond Kombat Esq. as the Acting Managing Director of the company. His appointment was made by the President of the Republic of Ghana and takes immediate effect.

Prior to assuming the new role, Mr. Kombat served as the Deputy Managing Director of TOR since February 2025. A seasoned energy professional, Mr. Kombat brings to the position a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the energy sector, both locally and internationally.

In a press statement issued by the refinery, the management expressed its confidence in Mr. Kombat’s ability to lead TOR through its next phase of transformation. “Under his leadership, the management and staff are confident that he will drive the refinery’s transformation to contribute to Ghana’s economic growth and support in achieving energy security,” the statement said.

Mr. Kombat’s career spans several key positions in the energy sector, including roles at the Ministry of Energy, the Bulk Oil Storage & Transportation Company (BOST), and Tema Oil Refinery. He is also a co-founder of the Institute of Energy Security (IES) and has served as an advisor on strategic energy projects in South Africa, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

The management noted that Mr. Kombat’s extensive background in refining operations, policy advisory, and institutional leadership makes him well-suited to steer TOR toward greater efficiency and sustainability.

Tema Oil Refinery remains Ghana’s premier oil refinery and a strategic national asset. The appointment of Mr. Kombat is expected to inject renewed leadership into the company’s operations and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s energy agenda.
