The Director of Elections and IT of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has reminded party members contesting upcoming constituency elections of the implications of resigning from their positions as branch executives.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Mr Gibril clarified that branch executives who resign from their positions to contest constituency-level positions will lose their voting rights as branch executives in the same constituency election.
He cautioned party members against assuming that they would retain their voting rights after resigning from their branch executive positions to pursue constituency-level positions.
“Once you resign as a Branch Executive to contest a Constituency position, you LOSE your voting right as a Branch Executive in that Constituency election,” he stated.
The clarification comes as the NDC prepares for its upcoming internal elections, with members expected to contest various positions at the constituency level.
Mr Gibril’s reminder is expected to provide clarity to aspirants and party executives regarding the rules governing eligibility and voting rights ahead of the constituency elections.
He urged party members to take note of the implications of their decisions and comply with the party’s electoral guidelines throughout the internal election process
