Ghana has taken another step towards re-establishing a national airline following a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and officials of the Boeing Group.
The meeting forms part of efforts to revive the country’s national carrier, with preliminary studies already confirming the viability of the proposed airline.
A roadmap for the establishment of the airline has also been agreed upon, setting out key steps towards making the project a reality.
These include securing a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, obtaining an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), selecting an appropriate fleet and determining the financing arrangements for the project.
The Boeing team has assured President Mahama of its continued technical support throughout the establishment and operational phases of the airline.
The proposed national carrier is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s ambition to position Accra as the leading aviation hub in West Africa, while increasing the utilisation of the country’s improved airport infrastructure.
Beyond strengthening Ghana’s aviation industry, the project is also expected to create thousands of employment opportunities for pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers and aviation management specialists.
The move signals renewed efforts to restore Ghana’s presence in the international aviation market and strengthen the country’s position as a major destination for air travel across the sub-region.
