President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has called for the revival of the Security Services Sports Games (SESSA Games) to promote unity among Ghana’s security agencies and provide a platform for identifying sporting talents.
Mr Okraku made the call when he met the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss plans to revive the inter-security sports competition.
According to the GFA President, the security services have considerable sporting talent across various disciplines, making the games an important platform for nurturing athletes and strengthening Ghana’s sporting development.
He said reviving the SESSA Games would not only promote unity and cohesion among the security services but could also create a valuable talent pool for Ghana’s national football teams.
Responding to the proposal, Mr Muntaka disclosed that he had established a committee to develop modalities for the revival of the games since assuming office.
He indicated that the SESSA Games are scheduled to take place in November 2026.
The Interior Minister said sports had an important role to play beyond the traditional security responsibilities of the agencies, noting that competition among personnel could strengthen camaraderie, discipline and teamwork.
He added that the games could also help identify football talents capable of progressing into the national teams.
Mr Muntaka explained that while this year’s competition would be held at the national level, the government intends to introduce a broader structure in subsequent editions.
Under the proposed arrangement, the games would begin at the district and regional levels before culminating in a national competition, allowing personnel across the country to participate and creating a wider platform for talent identification.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the initiative and restoring the SESSA Games to their former prominence.
