The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has launched the Big Push Electrification Project in Ho, with more than 200 communities in the Volta Region expected to be connected to the national electricity grid within the next six months.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to expand access to electricity and ensure that underserved communities across the country are connected to reliable power.
The project is being implemented as a special initiative of President John Dramani Mahama to accelerate rural electrification and extend the national grid to communities that have remained without access to electricity.
According to the project’s proponents, the first phase will focus on connecting more than 200 communities across the Volta Region over the next six months.
The initiative has been welcomed by stakeholders who believe it could significantly improve economic and social development in beneficiary communities by supporting businesses, education, healthcare and other essential services.
The Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, on his part commended Dr Jinapor for what was described as a technically focused approach to expanding electricity access.
He expressed confidence that sustained implementation of the project could bring reliable electricity to communities across the country within the next few years.
Further details on the specific communities in the Ketu North Constituency that will benefit from the first phase are expected to be announced at the next Accountability Series.
