President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled his pledge to the people of Ghana by appointing an eight-member committee tasked with organizing the much-anticipated National Education Forum. The committee, which will be led by Professor George K. T. Oduro, former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, has been given a two-week deadline to submit its report and plan.

The committee is composed of prominent education experts and key figures from various sectors of the Ghanaian education landscape. The members include Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, Professor Smile Dzisi, Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.

A statement released by the seat of the president emphasized the critical role of the committee in shaping the future of education in Ghana. “The National Education Forum will bring together stakeholders from all sectors of education to engage in a comprehensive dialogue aimed at improving our education system,” the statement read.

The committee’s terms of reference include the development of a central theme and sub-themes to guide the discussions, identifying key stakeholders to be invited, and proposing an agenda for the event. Other tasks include setting up a secretariat to document the forum’s activities, proposing a venue and date for the event, and preparing a budget.

One of the committee’s key deliverables will be to draft a national education policy framework and propose an action plan for implementing the forum’s recommendations within three weeks after its conclusion.

“The forum will provide a platform for educators, students, parents, policy makers, and other stakeholders to share ideas, address challenges, and set actionable goals for the future of education in Ghana,” the statement concluded.

With the clock ticking, all eyes will be on the committee to deliver a comprehensive plan that will help shape Ghana’s educational landscape for years to come.
