The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing has called for the appointment of George Opare Addo, also known as Pablo, as a cabinet minister in the upcoming John Mahama-led administration.
This comes as the youth wing highlights its critical role in securing the NDC’s 57% victory in the 2024 general elections.
The Youth of the party emphasized the significant contributions of George Opare Addo during the election campaign.
“The kind of leadership and work the youth wing put into last year’s campaign can never be overlooked. All rank and file within the party can testify that it was the NDC Youth Wing that delivered victory for the party in the 2024 general elections.”
They attributed the youth wing’s success to the exceptional leadership of George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organizer.
Under his stewardship, the youth wing embarked on a vigorous campaign that saw them touring all 16 regions of the country to canvass votes for the NDC.
“Under the leadership of George Opare Addo, the Youth Wing was able to tour all 16 regions, canvassing votes for the party and ensuring that the Youth Wing remains attractive to Ghanaian youth,” they said.
Beyond campaigning, the youth wing played a pivotal role in promoting the NDC’s manifesto, including flagship plans for a 24-hour economy, investments in health, education, sports, and social inclusion.
Bilal , former Bono East Regional Youth Organizer highlighted the innovative approach the youth wing employed to engage with young voters, making the campaign appealing to even those previously disengaged from the political process.
“Some of the youth who claimed to be neutral and not interested in voting voted because of how the youth wing made the campaign attractive,” they added.
As the NDC prepares to form its new government, the youth wing has made it clear that George Opare Addo’s contribution should not go unrecognized.
“George Opare Addo must be part of the first list of ministers that would be appointed by His Excellency John Mahama,” the youth asserted.
Their call is also in the spirit of the assurance given by President Mahama when he was campaigning as the 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
John Dramani Mahama boldly committed to introducing a new paradigm of governance by appointing young leaders to his cabinet if elected in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The move seeks to mirror the youthful demographics of the nation in its highest decision-making body, marking a significant departure from the norm.
Mr Mahama underscored the importance of youth representation, emphasizing that their energies and diverse perspectives are vital for shaping policies and driving progress in the country.
The call from the NDC Youth Wing has reignited discussions about the recognition and inclusion of young leaders in governance, with many party members backing the suggestion to elevate Opare Addo to a ministerial position.
