Ghana is observing its second edition of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving today, July 1, 2026, following its declaration by President John Dramani Mahama.
The nationwide event is designed to bring citizens together in prayer, reflection and gratitude for the country’s peace, stability and shared national progress.
This year’s celebration is held under the theme “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want.”
The programme will feature separate Christian and Muslim prayer sessions across the country.
The Christian service is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. at the forecourt of the State House, where President Mahama is expected to participate.
The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Eric Nyamekye, will serve as the special guest speaker, with several religious leaders expected to attend.
The Muslim prayer session will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the National Mosque in Kanda and will be led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
The national observance is being held simultaneously across all 16 regions and 261 districts, reinforcing a message of unity, renewal and collective responsibility.
