The Asantehene, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is expected to visit the United States to preside over a special Akwasidae festival celebration at Bowie State University in Maryland.
The event, organised by the Asante community in the United States in collaboration with Ghanaians across North America, is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of Asante traditional leadership ever held outside Ghana.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprising Paramount Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs, Queen Mothers, traditional leaders, and members of the Asanteman Council.
Organisers say the festival will provide an opportunity for Ghanaians, members of the African diaspora, scholars, students, and friends of Ghanaian culture to celebrate and experience the rich traditions and heritage of the Asante Kingdom.
The Akwasidae Festival is one of the most important traditional observances in Asanteman, dedicated to honouring ancestors, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting unity among the Asante people.
Thousands of participants from across the United States and other countries are expected to attend the celebration.
The programme will feature royal processions, traditional drumming and dancing, cultural performances, and the display of Asante regalia, showcasing the history and customs of the Asante Kingdom.
The organising committee has invited Ghanaians, Asantes, community leaders, students, and the general public to participate in the historic event and welcome the Asantehene and his delegation.
Further details on the event schedule, registration, and media accreditation are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
