The Ghana Police Service has arrested several suspected drug traffickers during a series of intelligence-led operations conducted across the Kumasi Metropolis by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The operations, carried out at identified drug distribution and sale hotspots, resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of suspected narcotic substances and other controlled drugs.

Details of the exercise were released by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on June 25, 2026.

One of the major operations took place at Asawase, where police arrested 61-year-old Kwame Afriyie, also known as “Con Papa” or “American Man.”

A search of his room and provision shop led to the recovery of 81 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be cannabis.

In a separate operation at Asafo, officers arrested Kofi Acheampong, alias “Mokobiley.”

A search of his residence uncovered 311 transparent rubber sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, 13 compressed parcels of dried leaves, 10 brown paper wraps containing black rock-like substances believed to be narcotics, and quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products.

Police also arrested 22-year-old National Service personnel Michael Owusu Agyeman during a raid at Krofrom after he was allegedly found in possession of 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.

Additional operations conducted at Atonsu-Bokuro, Krofrom, Kenyase, Asokwa, Buokrom and Asafo BB led to the arrest of 10 more suspects identified as Adamu Ibrahim, Stanley Boahene, Favour Emmanuel, Abubakar Sadick, Adwoa Serwaa Boamah, Paul Quagraine, Nana Kwasi Amo Peprah, Hamdiyah Ibrahim, Nicholas Adorku and Natson Yaaba.

The police said exhibits retrieved during the operations included compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, tramadol, ecstasy tablets, amphetamine tablets, suspected cocaine and other controlled substances.

According to the Police Command, all seized exhibits have been secured for forensic examination, while the suspects have been arraigned before court and remanded into custody pending their next court appearances.

The Police added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other persons connected to the suspected drug trafficking network.

In a statement signed by the Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, the Service commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and organised crime.

The Police also appealed to the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing credible information to assist in the fight against illicit drug activities.
