Two generation units have been restored at the Akosombo Dam following disruptions triggered by the recent fire outbreak at the GRIDCo substation.
This was disclosed by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 27, 2026.
According to him, the restoration marks a gradual return to stability in power supply after the incident severely affected electricity transmission and evacuation capacity.
“Through emergency technical interventions, the first-generation unit was successfully restored yesterday. This afternoon, I received confirmation that the second unit has also been brought on and is generating power. The third unit is undergoing works and it will also be brought on as soon as possible,” he said.
The development follows recent power outages across parts of the country after a fire destroyed critical infrastructure at the GRIDCo substation in Akosombo.
The Minister indicated that engineers are continuing repair works on the remaining units, with expectations that more will come on stream in the coming days to improve overall system stability.
