The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a payment plan for outstanding salary arrears owed to newly recruited teachers, following the approval of funds tied to the 2024 financial clearance.

This follows consistent protests and concerns raised by affected teachers over delays in the payment of their salaries.

In a statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES said the approval was granted by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform the general public, especially newly recruited teachers, that approval has been granted for the payment of outstanding salary arrears associated with the utilisation of the 2024 financial clearance,” the statement said.

The Service noted that the arrears cover eligible teachers whose payments accrued between August 1, 2024, and November 2025.

“This approval, issued by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), covers eligible teachers whose arrears accrued between 1st August 2024 and November 2025,” it added.

GES indicated that the arrears will be settled in instalments over a four-month period to ensure a smooth disbursement process.

“Management further announces that the payment of these arrears will be made in instalments,” the statement noted.

Under the schedule, teachers will receive four months’ arrears each month from May through August 2026.

The Service explained that the phased approach is intended to enhance transparency and efficiency in payments.

GES has directed Regional Directors to relay the information to heads of schools to ensure that all affected staff are duly informed.

It also assured teachers of its commitment to their welfare and expressed appreciation for their patience during the delay.
