Four people have died following a tragic road accident on the Buipe–Tamale highway, while three others were rescued in a swift emergency response.
This was announced in a statement shared the Ghana National Fire Service in a Facebook post on Tuesday, March 31, 2025.
According to GNFS, the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Sawaba No. 2, and involved a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 9332-17 travelling from Buipe to Kumasi.
The Service indicated that its Buipe Fire Command responded rapidly after being alerted to the crash, where multiple passengers had already sustained injuries and others were trapped inside the vehicle.
“Prior to the GNFS crew’s arrival, 19 passengers had already been rescued to the Buipe Government Hospital,” the statement said.
Fire officers managed to safely extricate three passengers who were trapped in the mangled Sprinter bus. Despite these efforts, four victims — two males and two females — were confirmed dead.
“The deceased at the scene were handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation,” the GNFS added.
Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while one later died at the hospital while receiving treatment.
Preliminary indications suggest that a trailer truck was involved in the crash and reportedly fled the scene after the incident, leaving the damaged vehicle behind.
The Sprinter bus sustained severe damage as a result of the collision. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident and to track down the driver of the trailer.
The GNFS noted that the quick intervention of the Buipe Fire Station team, led by STNO II Abubakar M. Sheriff, helped prevent further casualties and ensured that survivors received urgent medical attention.
