Ghana’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson, has called on the Ghanaian diaspora to play an active role in President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Ghana Agenda,” which seeks to rebuild and transform the economy.
Speaking during an engagement with community leaders at Ghana House in London on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Mrs. Benson emphasized the government’s recognition of the diaspora’s contributions beyond remittances.
“President Mahama has you in mind. Your contributions, financial and intellectual, are vital to Ghana’s transformation. The Reset Agenda is a collective mission, and you are central to its success,” she told the gathering.
She urged Ghanaians abroad to invest in sectors that create jobs for the youth and stressed that the country’s future must be driven by its own citizens. “The time has come for us, the owners of Ghana, to lead in building the country we all desire,” she added.
Mrs. Benson assured the diaspora that her office will serve as a bridge to foster investment and development partnerships. “I want to encourage you to look homeward. Ghana is full of opportunities under the Reset Agenda. Your ideas, businesses, and projects are needed now more than ever,” she said.
Calling for unity, she added: “Development knows no party colour. The Ghana First Agenda that President Mahama is championing requires all hands on deck.”
Mrs. Benson, who described the warm reception as a positive sign for her mission, pledged open and inclusive leadership. “I believe in open-door leadership. Everyone should feel welcome to share ideas and concerns to collectively advance our nation’s interests,” she noted.
She was received at Heathrow Airport by UK Special Representative David Perry and Ghana’s Head of Chancery, Mr. Mawutor Alifo.
