Prominent political activist, Listowell Nana Kusi Poku, has publicly cautioned the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Randy Abbey, over what he describes as undue interference in the leadership of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC).
In a fiery social media post that has since gone viral, Kusi Poku warned Dr. Abbey to stay clear of CMC’s internal affairs, following the recent appointment of Wisdom Kofi Dogbe as the new Managing Director by President John Dramani Mahama.
“Dear Randy Abbey, be very, very careful! Take your hands off Cocoa Marketing Company! You are not wiser than President Mahama. He has made a new appointment and that is it!” the activist declared. “Why are you mediating for the NPP appointee? I am watching you very closely! This shenanigans must stop ASAP!”
The statement appears to be in response to reports that Dr. Abbey is covertly supporting the reinstatement of Frederick Amponsah-Doku, the former Managing Director of CMC, who was appointed during the tenure of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Mr. Dogbe officially assumed office as Managing Director last Wednesday, following his appointment by the President. However, sources within the cocoa sector claim that Dr. Abbey is lobbying for the return of Amponsah-Doku, whose tenure was marred by allegations of divisiveness and partisan leadership.
Kusi Poku did not mince words in his criticism of Dr. Abbey, implying that his experience in football administration does not equip him to meddle in the management of a strategic national institution like CMC.
“CMC is not football management where Randy seems to have expertise,” he asserted.
