President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that major rehabilitation works are underway to restore the late leader’s memorial library in Cape Coast-thirteen years after the passing of President John Evans Atta Mills.
Speaking at a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Asomdwee Park on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Mr. Mahama disclosed that the facility, built in 2016 to honor the life and legacy of Prof. Mills, has deteriorated significantly since 2017.
According to him, efforts are underway as former Information Minister, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, leads the team of reviving the structure.
The restoration of the library is expected to not only safeguard the historical memory of Prof. Mills but also serve as a renewed resource for researchers, students, and future leaders.
Mahama noted, “”We have held this discussion already and I can tell you that Kofi Totobi Quakyi and his small group are already working to bring that memorial library back to its original shape. We will ensure that it achieves the objectives upon which it was set up,” he said.
The announcement comes amid growing concern among party faithful and historians over the neglect of important national monuments, particularly those tied to Ghana’s democratic evolution.
