The contractor handling the Weija Specialist Hospital Project has been arrested and detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following a meeting with the Minister of Health at the Ministry’s premises.

The contractor had reportedly accepted an invitation from the Health Minister to discuss issues surrounding the operationalisation of the World Bank-funded hospital project.

According to reports, he returned to Ghana from the United States on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, specifically to attend the meeting and engage authorities on the way forward for the project.

The circumstances leading to his arrest and the specific allegations against him have not yet been disclosed.

The Weija Specialist Hospital Project, which is being supported by funding from the World Bank, is expected to improve access to specialised healthcare services when completed and operational.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations into the matter continue.
