The Volta River Authority (VRA) has firmly denied any link to a helicopter that made an emergency landing in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, clarifying that the aircraft is not part of its operations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, VRA’s Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, David Adomako Mensah, described recent media reports suggesting otherwise as “inaccurate and misleading.”
VRA’s investigation confirmed that the helicopter, registered as 9G-AFW, is owned by the privately-run Volta River Aviation Limited.
According to the Authority, the aircraft was flying from Accra to Kumasi on Monday, August 11, when poor visibility caused by bad weather forced the pilot to make a precautionary landing in Nkawkaw.
However, all passengers and crew were safe.
The Authority emphasised that its mandate is solely focused on electricity generation and supply, urging the public and media to verify information with its Corporate Affairs Department before publication.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency disclosed that the helicopter is not registered with the agency, raising questions about whether it receives official weather updates.
“The mandate of the Volta River Authority is to provide affordable reliable electricity to power economies and add value to lives. Our mandate does not include the provision of aviation services. The public is strongly advised to disregard any such reports. The media is also advised to make the necessary enquiries with VRA Corporate Affairs and External Relations Department for accurate information before such publications are made,” the statement read.
