The Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Container Owners Association at CMB have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in a heated land dispute they say threatens their livelihoods.
According to the groups, their operations at the CMB enclave—where they have been since 1986—are under pressure from private developers and railway authorities, with one claimant, Dasebre Dr. Assumadu Nyarko Appiah, insisting ownership of the land.

They warn that the development has already led to the loss of several lorry stations and trading spaces.
Presenting a petition at the Jubilee House, GPRTU Industrial Relations Officer Alhaji Abass Imoro stressed that the union was committed to peaceful engagement, not confrontation.
“We believe in dialogue and not violence, that is why we have put everything in this petition. We are pleading with the President to come to our aid and make sure we revive the lorry park once again,” he said.

Receiving the petition on behalf of the President, Presidential Staffer Bridget Otto praised the groups for pursuing dialogue, assuring them that the President takes the issue seriously and will act on their concerns.

The transport operators and traders remain hopeful that government intervention will secure the CMB land, protect their businesses, and restore the lorry park as a vital transport hub in Accra.
