The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals suspected of transporting narcotic drugs in the region.
The suspects, identified as Etornam Vumadzi, a driver, and Emmanuel Komlagah, were apprehended on Friday, January 30, 2026, while transporting the suspected substances from Godenu towards Togo.
According to Inspector Felix Kwao, Public Relations Officer for the Volta North Region, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation that flagged a Toyota minibus with registration number GT-6592-19.
“A search conducted on the vehicle led to the retrieval of eighteen sacks, each containing thirty-six yellow oval parcels, totaling six hundred and forty-eight parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs,” he stated.
Inspector Kwao also revealed attempts to bribe the police.
“Preliminary investigations established that a third party, identified only as Joseph, called the police team and attempted to offer one hundred and fifty thousand Ghana cedis as a bribe.
The suspects also offered thirty-two thousand cedis upfront. All offers were rejected by the police officers.”
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be brought before the courts to face charges.
Inspector Kwao assured the public of the police’s commitment to enforcing the law, saying, “We will continue to act decisively against drug trafficking and uphold the integrity of our operations.”
