The Ministry of the Interior has announced that all mining machinery in Ghana must be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by Monday, August 18, 2025.
The directive, issued on Tuesday, July 15, by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, forms part of government efforts to strengthen regulation in the mining sector and curb illegal activities.
According to the directive, the Ghana Police Service and the DVLA will begin enforcement of the registration exercise on August 2.
Any equipment found unregistered after the August 18 deadline will be confiscated by the State.
The Interior Minister urged all users of mining machinery to comply with the directive, warning of serious consequences for those who fail to register.
The initiative is aligned with broader plans to enhance internal security, ensure law and order, and protect Ghana’s environment from further degradation linked to unregulated mining.
“The Government, as part of efforts to reform the mining sector in the country, All Machinery Used in Mining Activities Must be Registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by 1st August 2025. Equipment that remains unregistered after this deadline will be confiscated by the State.
The Ghana Police Service and DVLA have been directed to enforce this directive from 2nd August 2025 onward rigorously.”
