The Ghana Police Service has begun a full-scale investigation into the fatal shooting of two Immigration Officers at Naagani-Basyonde in the Garu-Tempane area of the Upper East Region. The tragic incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
According to a police statement issued by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila, Public Relations Officer for the Upper East Regional Command, the officers were ambushed by unknown gunmen while returning to base after a routine foot patrol.
The assailants reportedly opened fire on them and escaped with two AK-47 rifles belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service.
“The Upper East Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for unknown assailants who shot two Immigration Officers on Sunday, 2nd November, 2025, at about 10:00 p.m. at Naagani Basyonde in Garu-Tempane,” the statement read.
“The bandits made away with two AK-47 rifles belonging to the Immigration Officers,” it added.
The two injured officers were rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for treatment, but one was pronounced dead upon arrival. The surviving officer remains in critical condition and is receiving medical care.
Following the attack, Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has dispatched a team of investigators and intelligence officers to the area to assist in tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring a swift resolution.
“The Command wishes to assure the general public that a thorough investigation is currently underway to unravel the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Chief Inspector Sumaila said.
Police have also appealed to residents of Tempane, Garu, and neighboring communities to remain calm and assist by providing credible information to support the ongoing investigation.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and vowed to leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice for the slain officer.
