Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp and arrested two individuals in connection with the haul.
According to a statement by the Police, the operation took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Afienya in the Greater Accra Region.
The interception followed intelligence shared by the Volta Regional Police Command, which had been monitoring the vehicle from Juapong towards Tema.
The truck, a green HOWO tipper with registration number GN 2287-24, was stopped and searched, revealing 56 maxi sacks containing approximately 80 wrapped parcels of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs in each sack.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Solomon Akuaku, and his mate, 31-year-old James Tetteh, were arrested during the operation. Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment was being transported to Ada.
The suspects reportedly told police that the owner of the cargo, known only as “Red,” was travelling ahead of them to guide the movement of the vehicle.
Police say the two suspects are currently in custody assisting investigations, while efforts are underway to locate and arrest the alleged owner of the drugs.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and urged the public to continue providing credible intelligence to support law enforcement efforts.
