The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully brought under control a fierce blaze that ripped through the Tema Heavy Industrial Area late Wednesday night, June 18, 2025.
The fire, which engulfed over 500 wooden structures used for both domestic and commercial purposes, posed a major threat to nearby factories and installations.
According to a GNFS statement, the Service received the distress call at 11:52 p.m., and the first fire appliance from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station, led by ADO I Orlando Adablanu, arrived just six minutes later at 11:58 p.m.
Firefighters battled the flames for nearly six hours, bringing the blaze under control at 1:59 a.m. and fully extinguishing it by 5:43 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
To reinforce the operation, GNFS deployed six additional fire engines from the Tema Metro, Motorway, Ashaiman, Newtown, Devtraco, and BOST fire stations.
The coordinated response prevented the fire from spreading to major establishments, including Ferro Fabrik Ltd and other adjoining factories.
The operation was led by the Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick Sallah, and supported by senior officers and partner emergency agencies.
Despite the extensive destruction of property, GNFS confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and GNFS has assured the public that further updates will be provided.
GNFS also called on the public to adhere strictly to fire safety protocols, especially in high-density areas with wooden structures, to prevent future incidents of this nature.
“The team successfully salvaged unspecified number of wooden structures, Ferro Fabrik Ltd and adjoining factories, preventing further spread of the fire. Unfortunately, over 500 wooden structures and their contents were lost to the fire. The operation was supported by the Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick Sallah, other senior officers, and partner agencies.”
“Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded. The cause of the fire is under investigation. GNFS commends its firefighters for their swift, coordinated, and tactical response, which saved lives and protected critical infrastructure.”
