The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has announced a series of major reforms aimed at making higher education more affordable and accessible under President John Mahama’s Reset Agenda.
In a statement signed by the SLTF Chief Executive, Dr. Saajida Shiraz, the Fund said the changes include the introduction of a new “Students Loan Plus” package that offers full fee coverage loans for tertiary students, disbursed directly to institutions.
Loan amounts for regular beneficiaries have also been increased by 50%, now ranging from GHC 2,250 to GHC 4,500 per academic year.
“The prevailing interest rate on student loans has been reduced from 12% annual compound interest to 6% simple interest during the period of study and moratorium,” the statement added.
To simplify access, the E-zwich requirement has been scrapped, with GCB Bank accounts automatically created for all new applicants under the “No Fees Stress” initiative.
The SLTF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting equitable access to affordable tertiary education across Ghana.
