A scuffle reportedly broke out among some youth during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration in Accra on Thursday after coins were allegedly thrown into a crowd.
Eyewitnesses said the altercation began when a small amount of coins was tossed to some participants, prompting several people to scramble for the money.
The situation quickly escalated into a brief fight as individuals pushed and exchanged blows while trying to collect the coins.
The disturbance momentarily disrupted activities along the demonstration route before other participants and security personnel intervened to restore calm.
The demonstration, organised by the NPP, was held to protest what the party describes as threats to Ghana’s democracy, the rule of law and freedom of expression under the current administration.
There were no immediate reports of serious injuries or arrests in connection with the incident.
The organisers have not officially commented on the altercation.
