Deputy Minister-designate for Transport and Jomoro MP, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has assured Parliament of her commitment to tackling Ghana’s road safety crisis, pledging sweeping reforms should her nomination be approved.
Mad. Affo-Toffey’s comments come at a time when Ghana continues to record worrying rates of road traffic accidents, prompting fresh calls for decisive action from policymakers.
During her vetting with the Appointments Committee on Friday, July 25, she said road accidents remain a national concern, and she is ready to work hand-in-hand with the substantive minister to implement lasting solutions.
She added that beyond deploying modern tools, the strict enforcement and possible enhancement of traffic regulations will be central to her strategy.
“When I’m given the nod, I will assist my Minister to make sure that we put in place measures that will curb accidents. For instance, by educating the general public and also making sure that we have an effective emergency response system, putting up a clear signage system, and putting in place cameras to detect speed limits.
“Most importantly, making sure that we enforce the existing laws and regulations, and make sure we strengthen them to curb accidents on our roads,” She said.
